The villa is located in Brejos da Carregueira Village in Comporta, a popular summer destination among the European jetsetters.
80 km South of Lisbon, Comporta is blessed with endless sandy beaches to the West and the unique setting of the protected Sado Estuary (with its dolphins and the Arrabida Mountain Range National Park) to the East and the North.

Comporta is the longest sandy beach in Europe (stretching over 60km of protected white sand). Comfortably protected from the northern winds by the beautiful Arrabida Mountain Range across the Sado Estuary, the area is still untouched by the real estate boom, with its fine dining restaurants over the dunes with fresh fish and seafood specialties making it one of the most exclusive and desirable holiday beaches in Europe.  Comporta also is very popular among artists and trendsetters, attracted by its understated stylish atmosphere and fantastic weather.

Troia resort, with its golf course, casino, beautiful beaches, restaurants and nightclubs, is a short 15 minute drive to the North. Across from the beautiful peninsula, Setubal and the Arrabida National Park, are within easy reach via a ferryboat across the Sado Estuary, from which you can occasionally spot dolphins and flamingos.

Comporta is surrounded by historic towns, which have been greatly influenced over the centuries. The Phoenicians were first, followed by the Romans, then the Moors and later by the Catholic Reconquista from the 13th century. Each have left their imprint on the landscape. There are traces of forts and settlements from as early as the 6th century BC.

The cultyure of salt led to the area coming to prominence during the Roman times. There are Roman ruins and monuments scattered from Troia in the North to Santiago do Cacém in the South. Just south is the town of Sines, known for its geographically important port. It has a beautiful well preserved Castle overlooking the narrow streets of the pleasent old centre. Several small beautiful sandy beaches offer great panoramic views of the west coast. Santiago do Cacém, in the south, is a lovely town full of character which should also be visited. To the north is Setúbal, known for its fantastic fresh fish.  80 km away is Lisbon, an easy day trip, an hour's drive along the motorway.

Beaches:

Praia do Pego is 12km away from the house and offers all the amenities expected of a high quality beach. It won the prize of "best beach facilities" in Portugal. The "Restaurante Sal", is a restaurant literally on the sand and won several awards for its refined cuisine.

Comporta beach is situated in the limits of the wonderful Sado Estuary Nature Reserve, which allows the region to preserve all its astonishing natural beauty. Comporta combines the charm of its dunes, the extensive pine tree area and the refreshing ocean.

With a quite extensive sandy area, the beach provides good conditions for surfing and kite surfing alike. Comporta beach is the longest sandy beach in the whole of Europe (over 60 km of protected unspoilt coastline in a largely undiscovered area). Parking facilites are good, and being so large it is never too crowded. The beach offers good amenities and there are several great restaurants.

There are other sandy beaches nearby, such as Aberta Nova, Melides, etc.

Water sports:

Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing can all be practiced in the safe bay of the Sado estuary, and as previously mentioned surfing and kite surfing are practiced at Comporta beach.

Social Events:

From June to September local hip beach clubs host regularly trendy night beach parties with international DJs. The special (hippy chic) atmosphere is both casual and refined.

Gastronomy and wine tasting:

The region is famed for its gastronomy, with its fresh grilled fish being an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the 'Rota de Vinhos' association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature.
Excellent fresh fish and seafood restaurants are easy to find and inexpensive.

Troia Golf:

The unique Troia Championship golf course is 30 km away (25 minute drive). The brand new Hyatt Herdade do Pinheirinho Golf Course, a stunning championship course located 12 km.

Getting there and around:

2 hours flight from most European cities and 7 hours from New York, the Villa is reached by car from Lisbon airport in under 1h30. Faro airport is less than 2 hours away.
A car is recommended to fully enjoy the many delights of the area.

About Lisbon and the Silver Coast

Lisbon

The vestiges of its 2,800 year-old history are everywhere you look in Lisbon, fingerprints from a time when the world was yet to be discovered. That electric feeling of excitement and mystery lives on in Lisbon, calling travellers from all around the world to drink in the scenic vistas, ancient architecture, World Heritage monuments, cultural treasures and undeniable romanticism of this magnificent city. Built on a series of hills that overlook one of the world’s greatest natural harbours, Lisbon is a melting pot of influences from Phoenician, Celtic, Roman, Visigoth and Moorish culture. Lose yourself in Gothic cathedrals, centuries-old monasteries, quaint museums and cobbled alleyways as you become intimately acquainted with one of Europe’s most captivating, soulful and enchanted capitals. The abundance of tourist attractions in Lisbon will have you winding your way through tree-lined streets in its characteristic yellow trams; strolling hand-in-hand through the old quarter; stopping at tiny patio restaurants for freshly-baked bread and wine; walking along the seaside that saw the triumphant return of Vasco da Gama or listening to the haunting melancholy of fado, the traditional music of Portugal. Wander down to the River Tagus, whose riverfront is dedicated to leisure activities and which links the historically significant zone of Belém with the modern area of the Parque das Nações. Stroll through the hilltop district of Bairro Alto, where countless restaurants and bars line the streets. Jazz, reggae and fado fill the air in this lively district where revellers party until the sun rises golden over the sea. There has never, and will never be a city like Lisbon. As anyone who has visited it will tell you, the pure pleasure of exploring Lisbon’s streets, experiencing its gorgeous weather and delicious food, or discovering its secrets can never be explained. Heed the traveller’s call, set sail for Lisbon’s shores and feel the excitement as the city looms near, waiting to be discovered again.
