I'm walking on sunshine (Wow!)

And don't it feel good!
It's funny how a touch of sunlight can brighten up your mood
isn't it?
The summer mood and the month of August in particular, is all
about taking some time for yourself and your family, getting away
from the normal routine of work and home life.
Isn't it about time you let the warmth of the sun bathe you in
light and positive energy? While staying at one of our luxury villa
rentals within the Quinta Do Lago, Vale Do Lobo and Vilamoura
regions.
The sun itself is also one thing in particular we all need to be
careful of this August.
Everybody's Free To Wear Sunscreen
As Baz Luhrmann once said: "Wear sunscreen."
"If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen
would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved
by scientists."
As we know, if you persist in not wearing sunscreen or
protecting yourself in the summer sun, you could be at risk and
have more chance of developing skin diseases, most notably skin
cancers.
Despite the health warnings, many holidaymakers still forget to
take the tops off their sun tan oil and rub into their skin. So,
with this in mind, let's take a look at some of the top tips for
protecting yourself against the sun during your Algarve
holiday:
There really is no excuse not to wear sunscreen. Regardless of
clouds in the sky or the sun not shining as bright, you must get
into the habit of putting your sun cream on every day throughout
your stay to ensure you are protected at all times.
- There are many types of sunscreen
to choose from to make lavering on sunscreen a less time consuming
activity, as well as covering all areas of your body exposed to
sunlight. For example, protective spray and lip balm/lipstick
contain sun protection factor (SPF) to stop specific areas of your
skin from burning. You may also want to consider using factor 30 or
higher.
- It is recommended to re-apply your
sunscreen every two hours, especially if you are in and out of the
water at the beach or poolside.
- The sun is at its strongest
between the times of 10:00am-16:00pm. Consider the amount of time
you are spent directly in the sun during this period by retiring to
shaded areas on and off throughout the day.
- If you are holidaying in The
Algarve with younger members of your family such as babies under
the age of 6 months old, you should also cover them in the shade
throughout the day. In addition, there are clothes and swimming
costumes for babies made with special sun-protective materials to
ensure protection is maintained.
- Closely followed by your
sunscreen, other items that can be used to protect yourself against
harmful sunlight should be your sunglasses and a sun hat for added
protection.
- If you are currently taking
medication, be cautious that you may be more sensitive to the sun.
These include specific types of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories,
antifungals, blood pressure medications, and chemotherapies.
Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying
Now you are all protected with your sunscreen and other
essentials to ensure you are not walking around The Algarve looking
like a large lobster, you will be pleased to know that the sun is
actually the best source of health-enhancing Vitamin D.
As with everything, it is all about small doses. If you are
responsible and sensible when partaking in some sunshine activity,
the health benefits can be good for you inside and out:
-The sun can lower blood
pressure
-It improves bone health
-It also has a positive impact on your immune system
-You can get a good night's rest of an evening
-You feel better in yourself
-You may even return home with a nice, healthy colour
The summer is in full swing and here to be enjoyed. The warm
weather is ideal for resting and relaxing outdoors close to your
villa complex or exploring our sun-kissed beaches. Imagine sitting
back on your sun lounger and listening to your favourite playlist
or reading your new novel or celebrity biography - paradise.
If you are looking to enjoy yourself further, the lovely
Portuguese weather this time of year enables you to get out and
about and partake in the local cuisine, restaurants, attractions
and an array of sporting activities including our award-winning
Golf courses.
